The Melting Pot

So I havent been online much this week and got to update alot of stuff. My family from Indiana is here, well some of them, My grandmother, aunt, and 2 cousins. Throughout school we were always told how America is called the melting pot because of all the different ethnicities and different nationalities. Over the past week I've learned that there are an abundance of cultural differences even between families over a distance of a few states. Now don't get me wrong. Yes I love my family and I do not in any way look down upon them or think Im better but The Maguires of NC differ from the ones in Indiana majorly. One of my pet peeves when they come is the food situation. Food happens to be one of my joys and haha hobbies. Upon first getting here my grandmother asked if I would put her "pop" in the "fridgadaire"...errr right. yes ive heard the Pop expression its just not something you hear every day. Ive also never seen people who drink softdrinks even with their breakfast. I havent seen my cousin Chad in about 2 years and well...he likes to eat too apparently. Upon waking up at 8 I found him in my kitchen eating have a pack of oreos for his meal, afterwards he was too full for our famous bojangles chicken buscuit. Thats right. They dont have bojangles. My older cousin is closer to my brothers age, so we try to find things in common to talk to him about, Down here people talk about who's dating who, what car ya got or the new surfboard or clothes yada yada..My cousin doesnt really understand all of this. His hobby is his racing 4 wheeler. *shrugs* something I have no clue about. Looking at us out in public you probably wouldnt know we were all related. My brother and me decked out in rainbows with some type of roxy and hurley clothes and sunglasses. Mom in her shorts and a tanktop and flip flops. Then there is my cousins, both in basketball shorts with t-shirts and the sleeves cut off. My aunt and grandma both in soffee shorts and t-shirts with the Indiana Pacers emblem on it. Hot stuff. At night while me and Kyle have anxiously wanted to get out of the house go and chill with our friends or drive over to the beach. The rest find it relaxing to sit outside and bond with mosquitos and the heat. (mind you I am a southerner and love to sit and relax on the porch with my sweet tea but not when the heat index is 115)
So it's true to say that the U.S. is the melting pot and I'll be more at ease when things get back to normal. It'll be nice to be able to listen to my music or sit on my computer when I want (Im only writing this right now because everyone is at the beach and I have to work in a bit) Hell it will even be nice to sleep in my own bed. Yeah thats right they stole my room and my bed. Me and daisy have been shackin up on the couch this week woo woo.
